- Aromatherapy is not just about fragrance.
Aromatherapy requires the use of a specific source called essential oils. These essential oils have therapeutic qualities which direct the outcome of a specific purpose. These essential oils have to go through rigid extracting procedures for them to qualify for use in aromatherapy. Not all fragrances or oils are suitable for aromatherapy even though sometimes labels suggest that it is an aromatherapy product.
- Aromatherapy is not exclusive to ”relaxation."
It is true that some essential oils make excellent relaxants and help calm the nervous system. Aromatherapy is more than a “feel good” modality. Aromatherapy can help aid in a broad range of conditions and moods. It also helps tremendously in preventive health care.
- Aromatherapy is not a new age phenomenon.
The use of extracting oils from plant sources for therapeutic benefit has a history dating back many thousands of years and spanning many different cultures such as Egyptians, Greeks, Chinese, Indians, Romans.
- Aromatherapy is not a replacement for traditional means of health care.
Aromatherapy can be defined as a complimentary modality. It is meant to compliment existing forms of health care you receive rather than replace them. Essential oils are excellent tools to practice preventive medicine however aromatherapist should not recommend exclusive usage over and against traditional medicine.
